The matrix printer has needles each driven by an electromagenet. The needle is supported for its reciprocating motion by a planar spring (9) comprising a circular disc having three cut-outs defining three arms. The width of the arms reduces from the centre to the periphery of the disc and widens again at the junction with the rim portions of the disc. The rim portions are of uniform radial width for mounting on an annular support.
