Metal pressings for the automobile industry are made from a continuous strip (1) which is fed from the coil (2). The strip (1) passes through a guiding device (3) and then through various stamping and piercing presses (7, 8) before being cut to the required length by the shearing press (6). The sheared and partly formed pressings are then placed in stacks (4) ready for the next operation such as deep drawing. By performing as many operations as possible whilst keeping the strip in one continuous piece the need for special transport devies between these operations is eliminated.
