In production of cut wood from round timbers, the timber is provided with face guide su rfaces and then cut as it is led along them. The timber is lopped into pieces of limited and equal length, and the dia. of each piece is measured. Each piece is then provided with guide dia. and temporarily stored. Pieces with the same dia. are then cross-sectionally shaped. This permits a combination of automatic processing and max. gain of useful cut pieces.
