The symbols on the number plate are provided with a different pattern. Such differences can be attained in various ways. In one design a symbol may have a wavy groove in its surface while in a further variation the letter has a negative dot matrix extending over its total surface. In another design, each symbol has its own shape reproduced on it many times in greatly reduced form. By suitable preselection of the size, position and number of the individual components of the pattern, falsification is made difficult since it is easy to see deviations in the pattern.
