Light-wt. composite material comprises a matrix filled with relatively very small hollow spheres; the former being a castable, kneadable or injection-mouldable substance such as Al, rubber, a plastics, a setting resin or a foam; the latter being of suitably heat-stable material, esp. glass. Used in the mfr. of vehicle engine castings; anti-noise components for vehicle bodies. Material combines light wt. with adequate mechanical strength.
