The recording control system enables a differentiation to be made between the recording instruction for single characters and the recording instruction for a character sequence. This ensures that the steps required for single characters can be reduced to a minimum for their build up action and decay action. A step-width counter is set to a value corresponding to the required step width and counts backwards at a fixed rate, emitting a signal "0" at the zero position. This signal generates a step rate for the stepping motor.
