In the recovery of half stuff or cellulose from wood by impregnating wood reduced to small pieces with chemicals and decompsn., strips of wood with a thickness of 0.7-1.7mm, a length of 30-100 mm and pref. a width of min. 5mm are used. It is pref. to use shavings made from damp wood. The prod. is useful for the prodn. of paper, cellulose or viscose. The process avoids the need for costly preimpregnation and slow digestion with large amts. of liquor.
