The exposed-height control for telescopic equipment in submarines is primarily for use when snorkeling using automatic depth control. Electric switching networks, one for each periscope part, evaluate a common actual depth signal against combined desired boat depth and individual periscope part height signals. Their desired value output is fed after passing through a variable gain amplifier, to a comparator in the form of e.g. a sum-and-difference amplifier, where it is compared with the actual height feedback. The comparator output is converted into a correction signal for the periscope positioner (A) with the aid of error direction and movement range monitors.
