luminous matrix screen for X=ray image intensifiers - is produced by using fibre-optic plate whose light guide sleeves are etched on side to be coated with phosphor
The production process ensures application of photocathodes without damaging the phosphor layer of the X-ray image intensifier. The screen contains a number of adjacent phosphor column (21) on a fibre-optic plate (7), the longitudinal directions of the phosphor columns and the fibre-optics (19) to be identical. The sleeves (20) between the fibre-optics on the surface of the fibre-optic plate, which has to be coated with the phosphor columns, is etched away, the phosphor being then vapour deposited onto the ends of the fibre-optics. The sleeves between the fibre-optics is etched away to a depth of several microns, preferably 5 microns. Prior to dipping the plate into an etching solution, or prior to exposition of an etching atmosphere the unconcerned parts of the surface are coated with an etching-resistant film.
