Processing cumene prodn. residues - by catalytic hydrogenation to give cumene and benzene

Processing of residues (A) left after cumene prodn. comprises partial dealkylation of (A) over a hydrogenating catalyst at 0-100 (2-15) bar H2 and 300-550(400-450) degrees C. The poly(esp. di-and tri-) propylated benzines are converted to cumene and the other alkylbenzenes to benzene. (A) are totally converted to low b.pt. materials which can be sepd. by distillation. The process operates at low pressure, with a high through-put and is easily integrated with a conventional cumene plant. Only a small amt. of gas is formed.
