Bicycle wheel rim brake assembly - has single spring shoe return mechanism mounted on steering assembly to restore shoes to symmetrical position

The purpose of the design is to ensure that on rim brakes the abutting shoes during the braking operating follow any possible eccentricity movement of the rim and after release the shoes return to an exact symmetrical position. The mechanism consists of a wire spring bent into double circular shape with angled-down spout-like part. The ring is clamped underneath the locking nut on the steering column. Into the spout-like part the apex-end of a steel wire (4) is hooked-in while the two ends of the wire are attached at point (5) to the two brake arms (7, 8) swivelling around a fulcrum (6) and fitted on their ends with brake shoes (9). The cantilevered part of the ring (2) acts as a spring which returns the two brake arms into their clear position after completed braking.
