Photocopier with sheet and book format modes - has continuous multi-copy facility with separate counters for originals and copies using photocell with timed delay

The photocopier has an original (2) of format scanned line by line via movement of optical elements (3, 4) or a carriage, with a set (54) of selected individual sheets copied by being moved via a transport mechanism (11...14) across an imaging gap (15). A counter is used to indicate the number of mutliple copies provided in each case. One counter is indexed via the to and fro line scanning movement for an original of book format, while the other counter is indexed via a signal from a photocell (55) responsive to movement of the individual sheets across the imaging gap (15), this photocell (55) operating with a defined time delay sufficient to allow a full set of sheets (54) to be copied.
