Hood which covers and/or surrounds a source of noise, danger and/or some other nuisance and/or risk and thus protects the environment against these effects of that source, has sidewalls and a lid; at least part of =1 sidewall forming 1 integral unit with at least part of the lid. Integral unit can be horizontally moved from near the source of noise etc., to enable the source to be exposed. The hood is suitable for screening-off (a) heavy machinery, e.g. presses, (b) machines subject to the risk of explosions e.g. compressors; or (c) appts. from which hazardous radiation may escape. The displaceable unit can be slid sideways or is pivotable about a vertical axis.
