The telephone exchange may have its switching capacity increased by adding an extra switching matrix subgroup without needing an extra switching stage. Switching matrix sections are connected in parallel at their outputs by multiple connection circuits to form subgroups. The extra subgroup is only additionally connected by its output multiples to the already existing interconnections of the multiples belonging to already existing subgroups. The advantage lies in reducing the amount of work entailed in expanding the exchange.
