Signal generator marking TDC of IC engine piston - has projection on crankshaft which induces pulse in pick=up coil

The signal generator has a mark in the form of projection or a slot, rotating with the crankshaft, which induces in a d.c. carrying pick-up coil an a.c. signal with a positive and a negative half-wave. This signal is fed into an amplifier and pulse shaper, whose output signal is the signal marking the piston position, esp. t.d.c. A transformer (8) secondary windings (9, 11) are connected to a full-wave rectifier which delivers two d.c. pulses at each passage of the mark (3) before the pick-up coil (2). It is the input signal of an evaluation device which suppresses the first of the two pulses, and derives the marking signal from the leading flank of the second pulse.
