The windsurfer sail has a single boom (20) in a pocket (24) in the sail. Handropes on either side run the length of this boom to a fitting on or near the jaw (22) which allows adjustment of their length. The boom is of springy material, tapers towards the mast and has a vertical slot through the forward half. A rope's end (34) secured to or near the boom jaw assists in getting the rig upright.
