The manipulating equipment lifts transports and sets down workpieces having a column on which a jib adjustable for height, slews about a fixed axis having the workpiece support at the free end. An auxiliary jib (6) is mounted between the main one (5) and the support (8). This is coupled by a shaft in the main jib head (20) and parallel to the column axis (12) to the latter via a transmission system (15) whose ratio is selected as desired. The system may have a chain running round sprockets on column axis and shaft (14, 16).
