An electrically conducting Ti substrate (a) is coated with an intermediate layer (b) of metallic silicon and/or germanium, where layer (b) is doped with one or more elements of gp. III of the periodic system; and layer (b) is covered by a layer (c) of PbO2 obtd. electrolytically by making the coated substrate(ab) the anode in a plating bath. Layer(b) is pref. doped with B, Al, and/or In; and this layer(b) may also contain elements in the main gp. V of the periodic table. Used in sec. cells or other cells using H2SO4 electrolytes; or in the recovery of metals from waste water contg. H2SO4.
