Disinfectant comps, present as an aq. liq., contains =1 microbicidal quat. ammonium cpd. having formula R1R2R3R4N+X- (I) (where R1 is 8-18 C alkyl; R2 and R3 are 1-4C alkyl, esp. Me or Et; R3 is aryl-substd. 1-4C alkyl, esp. benzyl; and X is halogen) and is mixed with (b) an alkali sulphamate having formula NH2SO3M (II) (where M is alkali). Mol. ratio (II) : (I) is 0.1 : 1 to 0.8 : 1 (0.3 : 1 to 0.6 : 1). The solns. can be used for cleaning tanks and conduits in food- and drinks industry. Treatment with (II) reduced foaming without lowering microbicidal activity.
