Dyes of the formula (I) are new (where R1-4 represent, each independently, H or a lower alkyl or alkoxy gp.; R5 (I) is H or lower alkyl; R6 is a substituent; n is 1-3; and A and B can be further substd. (I) are used for dyeing and printing wool, polyamides, leather, and esp. cellulosics such as liner viscose and, above all, cotton. R6 is pref. an amino gp. -NR7R8 or a gp. -OR9 or -SR9. R7 and R8 represent, each independently, H, lower alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, or form together, opt. with one or more hetero atoms, esp. O, a ring, esp. a 5- or 6- membered ring. R9 is lower alkyl, aryl or al aralkyl. R6 is esp. an opt. substd. 2-aminobenzene sulphonic acid, -N(R7)-PhSO3H, where R7 is as above. A is phenyl substd. by 1 or 2 sulpho gps. 1 and opt. by 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy gps.; carboxy; halogen, esp. Cl; (1-4C alkyl) carbonylamino or benzylamino. Or A is 1- or 2- naphthyl substd. by 1-3 sulphonic acid gps. Esp. A is 2, 4- or 2,5-disulphophenyl; or, 3,6,8 or 4,6,8-trisulpho-2-naphthyl. B is substd. by the SO3H on the non-azo carrying ring and is opt. substd. by 1-4C alkoxy on the azo carrying ring. In C, 1 or 2 of R1-4, may be 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy esp. CH3 or OCH3-, and the other are H. Esp. C is 2-methyl, 2,6-dimethyl, 2,5-dimethyl or 2-methyl-5-methoxybenzene.
