Mfr. of rubber-coated 'U'-profiled metal clamps or staples comprises charging an uncoated chain of clamps to a rubber extruder where it is entrained by the rubber issuing from the die and simultaneously coated. Before being fed into the extruder the individual clamps are sepd. from one another and then charged to it. Rate of advance and of discharge of the rubber are controlled in such a way that there are differential distances between the entrained individual clamps. Spacing of clamps is closely controlled to minimise deformation as they pass through the extruder and to avoid unnecessary accumulation of coating cpd. about them.
