Railway vehicle wheel-set drive - motor and pinion shafts coupled using splined ring to allow for offset and length differences

The motor for a railway vehicle is set lengthways, with rotor mounted separately from gear unit. A coupling between motor shaft and pinion shaft allows for shaft offset and differences in length. The pinion shaft (2) has internal spline, the motor shaft being engaged with it via an intermediate ring (5) and non-rotatably connected to the motor shaft. The ring may also have an internal spline (8), for the motor shaft.
