Compsns. for scratch-resistant coating of plastics - contg. polyvinyl acetate and hydrolysis products of organo-silicon cpds.

Coating compsns. contain (a) 10-50 wt.% of hydrolysis prods. derived from tetraalkoxysilanes of formula Si(OR)4 (I) (where R is 1-4C alkyl); (b) 15-85 wt.% hydrolysi products derived from organosilicon cpds. of formula R'Si(OR")3 (II) (where R' is 1-2C hydrocarbyl and R" is opt. substd. 1-3C hydrocarbyl or 1-3C acyl); and (c) 5-35 wt.% of a polyvinylacetate resin., The compsns. are useful for providing protective coatings on transparent plastics, e.g. sheets of emthyl methacrylate resin. The coatings are scratch-resistant and have good adhesion and resistance to hot water and weathering.
