Compsn. for colouring eyebrows, eyelashes and beards comprises two separate aq. solns. One contg. catechol (I) and the other AgNO3 (II). Pref. the first soln. contains 0.1-5(1-3)wt.% (I) and opt. a stabiliser, esp. ascorbic acid and/or Na2SO3. The second soln. pref. contains 0.1-5(1.5-4)wt.% AgNo3 with NH3 added to pH 10.5-11. The compsn. may contain usual cosmetic additives. Solns. of (I) are more easily stabilised against oxidn. than those of pyrogallol and have improved physiological compatibility. The colourings prod. are fast to wear.
