Parent patent described appts. for cross-winding freshly spun polymeric yarns or fibre tows comprising a number of chucks for the package cores, each chuck being provided at an end with an axial abutment for engaging the core supported by the chucks. Abutment is formed by a ring received concentrically by the chuck provided with cutting elements. In this addn., a ring is provided at its end remote from the core with a nose and an angularly disposed yarn catching notch, the ring being slidable interchangeably into an end of a core. Commercially available cardboard cores can be used.
