The kite comprises a longitudinal bar (12, 14) and two splay ribs (16, 18) which extend for most of their length beneath the triangular foil covering (30). The ribs pierce this covering near the rear ends where they are then held in end fitments (26, 28) which are fastened to the top side of the cover (30). This increases the stability since the splay ribs (16, 18) are strengthened around the point where they bear on the longitudinal bar partic. as the ribs have at their inner ends a cross-sectional area which is twice the size of that over the rest of their length. This design also ensures the foil cover is not impeded by the ribs during flight since the wind pressure arches the cover accordingly.
