The gearbox for a heavy vehicles is composed planetary gear trains one of which is engaged by the coupling brake. The planetary gear is used for multiplication of the gear staging. The brake used for engagement is arranged outside the gear housing (1), and is built for continuous duty over long periods. The engagement stages are produced exclusively by couplings of the dry friction type. Both couplings and brake are operated by compressed air.
