The fuel metering pump is controlled by a lever (3) moved by the accelerator. The lever comes against a bar (12) to limit its movement and set a limit to the fuel input. The bar can slide in a guide plate (5) which is attached to the case (10) by a bracket (9) with an adjusting screw (7). The bar (12) is moved in the plate (5) by a solenoid (15) which can be energised according to engine speed. The bar has an inclined end (14) so that the movement of the lever is more limited at a high speed than at low speed. This prevents excessive speeds with a lightly loaded vehicle.
