Deodorant contg. turpentine resin (derivs.) - esp. for masking formalin, pyridine or hydrogen sulphide odours

Deodorant for substances emitting unpleasant odours contains =1 turpentine resin (I) or its derivs., including alkali metal salts, organic base salts, esters and amides. The compsn. is formulated either as an aq. soln. (opt. together with a solvent aid) or as a powder (opt. together wit a powdered diluent. Specified solvent aids are polyoxyethylene oleyl ether, Na layrylsarcosinate and higher Na alcohol-ethoxysulphate. Powdered diluents are kaolin or talc. The resin is made by steam-distilling coniferous plant material to remove the turpentine oil, leaving a residue, consisting largely of abietic and pimaric acids, which is refined. The compsns. are inexpensive and easy to handle.
