The structural component (1) is esp. of the reinforced concrete type, subjected to permanent dynamic stressing, as caused by traffic, but also made of plastics or other materials, and with reinforcement of metal protected from corrosion, or of fibre glass or other materials. In one peripheral area at least, esp. in the area of the under side, end sides and/or longitudinal sides, there is an additional edge reinforcement (4) embedded in and aligned vertically or at an angle to the plane of the adjacent peripheral surface. It may follow a curved course in this relatively vertical or inclined plane. Its course may be sinusoidal, or it may be made up from separate arcs. A zig-zag configuration is another alternative. This provides more even distribution of loading, reducing risk of damage from localised stresses.
