Video recorder for PAL colour TV signals - uses 90 degree phase shift between adjacent tracks to avoid cross talk

The video recorder, for PAL colour t.v. signals, shifts the frequency of the separated carrier chrominance signal to a band lying below the band occupied by the f.m. luminance signal. The phase of the carrier chrominance signal is altered in a given period of 90 deg. every consecutive horizontal sweep. During a following period no phase shift occurs. The result is that recordings in adjacent tracks are shifted in phase by 90 deg. w.r.t. one another to avoid cross talk between them.
