The drive for an automatic, self-propeled, floor section unit, used for cleaning swimming-pools, is hydraulic, with a pump sited outside the pool. Suction is generated by an ejector, driven by the same water pressure. This can involve two water turbines (2), with reduction gear units (3), and with drive-wheels worm-connected (8) to free-running wheels (9). In the event of failure of a reduction gear unit, the chassis can negotiate obstacles or slopes without deviating from its course. This involves no electrical components under water, and needs min. maintenance.
