A carded strand can changing device is provided below the carding machine with a guiding ramp (10) having an inlet (11) and an outlet (13) for a can (12) which in the charging position is maintained and turned in the charging position by a roller assembly (19) whilst resting on a support (18), the strand (16) which is laid in the cans in coils being sensed by a sensor to initiate displacement of a full can (15) to the outlet at which time a severing device (31,40) is actuated to sever the strand (16) and guide it into an empty can (12). DETAILS Guiding ramp (10) has rectangular path and along its longer section associated with the outlet (13) the empty can (12) is pushed by a pusher (28) depending from a carriage (22) movable along rails (21). Pusher (28) locates the can on the support (18) which is formed by a rotary table which is rotated by the roller assembly (19) through the engagement of the can periphery. Carriage (22) is also provided with a table (30) which supports the strand (16) severed by the severing device including a fixed comb (31) and pivotable comb (40). Severing may be effected by rupturing during displacement of the full can to the outlet.
