Pyrolysis of carbon-contg materials esp waste products - in a turbulent carrier gas stream, to yield gaseous hydrocarbons, esp ethylene

A turbulent stream of carrier gas, water, charcoal and comminuted carbon-contg. material of 2.54 cm. max. size, is pyrolysed at 650-1400 degrees C until part is converted into (1-7C gaseous hydrocarbons, is not 20% of which is ethylene, which are covered from the gaseous product. The amount of water is is not 2 wt.% of the carbon-contg. material and is well mixed with it. The carrier gas contains 1% oxygen. Pref. water content is (7-18)wt.% and pyrolysis temp. is 760-870 degrees C. Part of the solids in the product stream are pref. separated, heated to 870-1315 degrees C and recirculated to supply a substantial amt. of the heat for pyrolysis. The process is suitable for disposing of domestic, industrial and agricultural waste products, including used tyres, giving gaseous prods. suitable for use as fuels and sources of raw materials.
