Re-orientating yarn packages formed on frusto conical bobbins - by testing the bobbin orientation as it is advanced on a conveyor and removing incorrectly oriented bobbins to a reversing mechanism

Packages on conical bobbins are fed from an intermediate storage station to separate compartments of a substantially vertical elevator belt at the top of which is provided a testing station including pref. a pair of feelers to measure the diameter of the end of the bobbin adjacent the feelers. If the bobbin is incorrectly orientated pref. air jets are directed onto the bobbin at a rejection station above the testing station to force the bobbin out of the compartment so that it falls into a slideway and is guided to a reversal mechanism which re-orientates the bobbin and feeds it back to the intermediate storage position. Pref. the reversal mechanism includes an upper horizontal conveyor onto which the bobbin falls and which feeds it in one direction into a chute. In passing through the chute the bobbin is turned longitudinally through 180 degrees and then deposited on a lower horizontal conveyor which feeds the bobbin in the opposite direction to the intermediate storage station.
