Equal spacing and variable distances between objects to be stored or packaged can be achieved. A square frame has a number of parallel bars connected to each other with springs, sliding on the frame permitting to increase or decrease the distance between the items. This may be done by means of hydraulic or pneumatic rams or similar devices. The ram has its cylinder end fitted to the first bar, and its adjustable ram rod end to the last bar. A similar arrangement of bars and ram is provided at 90 deg. slightly above or below, with the rod cross point suitably connected through sliding joints, to which the pick-up attachments are fixed.
