A door locking mechanism for a railway carriage door (1) has a piston and cylinder driver (7) operated by a pressure fluid, with an actuator piston (7.1) which moves against an arm (8) all housed above the door, this arm having a nose (8.1) which presses against a spring loaded vertical rod (9) inside the door passing through a block (10) at the top of the door, the bottom of the rod being attached to a swinging arm (11) at the shorter point from its pivot axis, forming part of a parallelogram linkage (11, 12, 13) attached to the door handle (6). Another vertical spring loaded rod (3) between the door handle and the top of the door, has a forked upper end (3.1) which engages a lug above the door, to lock it.
