Overcoming slippage due to chain belt length variation - by using links with longitudinal play and setting cog wheels between max and min length of belt
Slippage and distortion of a chain conveyor belt is avoided by having links which move longitudinally in relation to each other. They consist of an inner and outer component, the inner component being able to move longitudinally such that when chain is in compression the stress is taken up by the inner components, not the axis between the links. Cog wheels are positioned according to formula: (whre Lo = distance between axis of cogs, L = max. length of chain, 1 = min. length of chain, and k = constant between 1, 5 and 6, pref. near 3 for temp. 900-1000 degrees C.). Driving of return cog due to weight of linkes is reduced by having braking mechanism. Links are for chain conveyor belts in tunnel furnaces where return leg is outside furnace.
