The cutting machine frame (1) has two steering wheels (3) at the rear. The front of the frame pivots on two parallel hinge arms (7) pivoting on the axle of driving wheels (2). The angle which arms (7) make with the frame opens towards the rear. A second set of hinged parallel arms (9) at the front carry skids (6) and are connected to frame (1) at an adjustable angle. When the skids meet an obstacle the arms (9) raise the frame (1) opening the angle between the arms (7) and the frame (1), resulting in a slight rearwards movement of the steering wheels in relation to the driving wheels, i.e. in a movement of the whole machine which is very heavy. A hydraulic jack whose operation is controlled by variation in the angle between arms (7) and frame (1) provides equilibrium.
