Steel, and esp. Ni-Cr steel, is provided with a tin coating contng. Fe by dipping into a bath of molten Sn at 400-650 degrees C. for 48-100 hr. The steel is taken from the bath and the outer layer composed of FeSn2 is removed, so that the tin coating is composed of FeSn contng. Ni and Cr. The treatment is carried out for a period so as to give a Sn-base coating 100-200 mu thick, pref. a FeSn-base coating 50-100 pref. 50-70 mu thick.
