A mixer for grains or powders has pockets, arranged in a circle around an axis, formed by an end wall parallel to the axis and two lateral side walls which are inclined to each other and meet forming a ridge transverse to the axis. The lateral side walls are planes which define a dihedron the peak of which can constitute the ridge or the truncated with a flat face end which carries an auxiliary dihedron the peak of which forms a ridge on the outside of the pocket. Each pocket in a circle is arranged so that its open end is opposite the ridge of the neighbouring pocket. The pockets constitute the internals of the mixer and are coupled in rotation either by bing fixed to a coaxial drive shaft with the pockets free to revolve in an outer casing or by fixing the pockets by their outer walls to the inner face of the casing which is freely supported so that it can be rotated. Several circular assemblies of pockets can be houses along the length of the mixer either one after the other, or with their lateral walls overlapping or with the pocket opening offset angularly in relation to each other. The cylindrical casing can have truncated end sections with inlet and outlet opening set coaxially at opposite ends or have at least one end part through which a sheath protrudes to the centre of the neighbouring pocket assembly, the pockets being terminated by a wall before meeting the sheath which has a lateral opening for the supply and/or emptying of the pockets. Filling and emptying can also be accomplished by having a screw conveyor in the centre of fixed sheaths at each end of the mixer casing.
