The supply device has a belt conveyor raising sand to the required height at which the sand falls onto the stockpile which has a natural cone shape. On the side of the conveyor is an arm carrying a spreader wheel (12). This wheel is provided with blades and is rotated by a motor installed underneath, the hub of the wheel being below the path of the falling sand. As the sand strikes the wheel, it is deflected onto the blades and thrown over a wide area. Moisture in the sand is distributed evenly and does not interfere with the operation of a discharge trap door.
