The refrigerator has a freezing compartment housed immediately under the top, with its evaporator formed as the walls of an open topped rectangular container with the top edges of the two sides flanged over, and with its rear wall doubled over and extended downwards to form the rectangular plate shaped evaporator for the normal refrigeration compartment underneath. At a point just below the level of the base of the freezer compartment, the plate shaped evaporator is connected to the freezer evaporator by a connecting strip at the centre. An alternative design has this connecting strip at one end.
