Carding device has main card roller and worker rolls - whose surface speed differential has a ratio of 12:1 to 3:1

A carding device has a main card roller with worker rolls disposed around and co-operating with its periphery the ratio of peripheral speed of the worker rolls to the peripheral speed of the main card roller being between 1:12 and 1:3 pref. 1:6. Associated with each worker roll is a combing roll whose peripheral speed is at least equivalent to that of the worker roll. The throughput of the carding device is increased without damaging the fibres. Pref. the peripheral speed of the worker rolls is between 80 and 300 metres/min. (pref. 150 metres/min). Pref. the combing rollers are driven from a main drive mechanism but can be controlled independently.
