Solar energy collector section - has profiled blades reflecting radiation onto each other to increase efficiency of collection

The section is formed from a single extruded aluminium piece. It has a water tube (1) in which circulating water absorbs the energy collected and a collecting plate (2) extending above and below it. Curved blades project forward from the plate and are in one piece with it. The radii or curvatur of the top and bottom surfaces of the blades are such that all radiation falling on one blade is reflected onto the adjacent blade. Thus the section collects both direct and indirect radiation and the overall efficiency is increased. The section has a spigot (5) at the top and a slot (6) at the bottom by means of which it is joined to adjacent similar sections to form a complete collector.
