A vice for precision drilling long workpieces is mounted below a mobile carriage (10) with micrometric adjustment. The carriage incorporates a keyhole shaped drill guide clamp (11) and a retractable stop (22). The carriage (10) may travel along a round section rail (13) and a screw (14) parallel to it by rotating a knurled screw head (15). A dowel (17) which projects from the carriage encounters a spring loaded piston (18) of a clock type micrometer. The holder (11) can locate on an arm which projects from the carriage to form a stub axle (21) for the support (24) for the retractable stop (22) which retracts by pivoting about the axle (21). The stop (22) may be adjusted at right angles to carriage motion, and has a cutter type vernier.
