High mol. wt. partly crystalline satd. terpolymers, which can be used also in unvulcanised condition, consist, by wt., of 60-94 (65-90)% ethylene, 4-10 (5-8)% alpha-olefine, pref. propylene and 2-30 (5-27)% bicyclo (2,2,1)-heptene-2-. They are prepd. by polymerising the monomers in an inert organic solvent at 40-80 (50-60) degrees C in the presence of a catalyst. The terpolymers contain 3-20 wt. % ethylene sequence, measured by IR-spectroscopy at 728-730 cm-1; have av. mol. wt. (Mn) 20000 and non-uniformity U 1-2. (I) are used for prepn. of films which resist atmos. conditions and temps. =80 degrees C. The terpolymers have improved strength, elongation, modulus and elasticity. Process is effected with low catalyst component concns., esp. low quantities of expensive V cpd.
