Heating system utilising heat pump - uses compressed extracted working fluid to heat fresh air and drive turbine coupled to compressor

Air extracted from a room is passed through a compressor which raises its temperature. The heated air then passes through a coil (5) within an enclosure (7). The enclosure is open to atmosphere at one end and connected with an inlet (9) to the room (2) being heated. A fan (8) draws outside air through the enclosure (7) over the coil (5) and discharges it (9) into the room. The fresh air supplied thus absorbs heat from the compressed extract air. Having given up its heat the latter flows through a turbine (11) in which it expands and gives up the energy absorbed in the compressor. The turbine and compressor are mounted on a common shaft (12) which also carries a motor (3) to supply the balance of input energy required.
