Method of cladding or plating a metal substrate with an alloy contg. Ni esp. cuprometal comprises formingng an assembly in which the substrate surface makes contact with a surface of the nickel-bearing alloy, and heating the assembly to a temp. above the solidus but below the liquids of the nickel alloy for long enough to produce partial fusion of the nickel alloy and thus forming a metallic bond between the substrate and the alloy. Cladding a cheaper metal or alloy e.g. steel to provide corrosion protection, esp. in desalination plant and power stations.
