Depositor is for mfg. a series of similar prod. portions from an extrudable paste. Machine comprises a vertical, cylindrical paste hopper in which a piston drives the paste downwards to be extruded via a nozzle. Below the nozzle a reciprocating cutter is used to part off extruded portions of predetermined thickness. The cutter pref. takes the form of a metal doctor wire stretched across the unequal branches of a 'U'-frame which is reciprocated by a double effect power cylinder. Portions can be mass produced of extrudable paste, partic. edible paste to make confectionery items, e.g. for enrobing with chocolate. The prod. portions are made directly from mixed paste without rolling out on a slab for punch cutting. Labour costs are reduced and output rate increased.
